April 17 & May 1, 2008Program
We attended the Parkland College production of "Return to the Forbidden Planet" as a NOW event called our Spring Fling. It was great! The play was good and we had potential new members. Joyce and Mason hosted guests. We hope they will join. Joyce and Mason continue to follow up. May 1st was the University of Illinois Disabled Athlete Banquet. We co-host this event where Athletes are honored with their letters and advanced awards.

Announcements
* We have a couple of work projects upcoming. Gene is head of the Golf Tournament and the Fishing Derby. Golf is June 5th and Fishing is June 7th. Both of these projects require Optimist volunteers to work. This is our opportunity to get some new people involved in a project that works directly with kids. Gene can find work for everyone.

* We lost a member who was very dear to us. Ralph Patzke memorials may be made to OI Foundation or to CU Optimist Club. All will be given to OI International in Ralph's name.

* Save the dates of July 18-26 for working at the Champaign County Fair in our fundraiser.

* Mason reported that scholarship winners will be with us at our June 5th meeting.

* It is possible that a butterfly garden may be placed in a Champaign and an Urbana park. We have extra money from the 2007-08 budget and the board is looking for ways to put it to good use. Restoration Urban Ministries is also looking for vegetable plants to plant at its site for the benefit of its residents. Some money may be used for this. Help the board decide how to use our money to the benefit of many. Ervin Williams, director of Restoration Urban Ministries was a member of our CU Optimist Club.
