April 5th, 2001
President: Helen Burch
The meeting was opened by President Helen Burch. Our guests were the University of Illinois Adapted
Athletes.
Program
A wonderful string Quartet, Crescendo II, provided music prior to
the meeting and during dinner. What a treat! They were under the
direction of Stephanie Price. Jack Whitman chaired a great event again.
The Al Sports Award Banquet for Adapted Varsity Athletics was hosted by our
club and American Legion Post 24. Tom Jones was master of ceremonies. The
presentation of awards to these deserving athletes is a great event to
sponsor. The student athletes are an inspiration.
Announcements
The Illinois District Essay winner was Andre Pendley from Buffalo
Grove sponsored by the Deerfield Club.
CU Optimist Softball/Baseball youth day was Saturday, March 31st.
The day was great and we were warmly received by the young fans.

Helen Burch, Don Chenoweth, and Qin Zhang planted 5 each of Marshall Ash,
Hack-berry, and Chinkapin Oak from Wandell's Nursery in Judge Webber Park
in NE Urbana. Schuren Nursery donated 15 Blue Spruce to be planted also.
Archery was very successful. Twenty youth participated in the
eight week program. Thank you, Bill!

We will host only one fishing derby this spring. It will be at
Kaufman Lake on June 2nd. It is for youth up to the age of 12. Your help
